It includes images that are both graphic and intraoperative clinical photographs for better understanding. The book is written by international experts who have invented and pioneered the newer hernia procedures.
Hernia surgery has evolved at a tremendous pace in the last decade. In the last decade, there has been a proliferation of more than 20 procedures in hernia repair, and they offer advantages compared to the older procedures in various clinical situations. Presently, the resources, including images of the newer procedures, are limited to the published journals. This book aims to fill this gap by providing technique based knowledge in an illustrated manner for learning newer hernia procedures. It is written in a succinct style.The book serves as a ready reference for practicing surgeons, minimal access surgeons and, resident surgeons, fellows.
Dr. Sarfaraz Jalil Baig is the Director of Digestive Surgery Clinic based out of Belle Vue Hospital, Kolkata, India, with more than 20 years of experience.
He has published over 25 peer-reviewed articles in various national and international journals on hernia, bariatrics and GI surgery. He has authored a book on 'Nutrition, Obesity and Bariatric Surgery' and co-authored a number of monographs and chapters in books of international repute such as 'Diet, Supplements and Medications After MGB: Nutritional Outcomes; Avoidance of Iron Deficiency; MGB in Vegetarians' in Essentials of Mini-One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass by Springer. He has co-edited a book titled 'Management of Nutritional and Metabolic Complications of Bariatric surgery' by Springer.He is the vice president of HSI (Hernia Society of India), an EC member of IAGES (Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endosurgeons), ex EC member of IASG (Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology), and treasurer of OSSI (Obesity Surgeons Society in India).
Following his passion for teaching and training, he has been responsible for organizing a number of national-level conferences and workshops. He runs training courses on hernia at his center and has trained more than 200 surgeons across the globe. He is one of the pioneers of AWR and bariatric surgery in India.
He is the associate editor of Journal of Bariatric Surgery and is on the editorial board of Journal of Minimal Access of Surgery.
Dr Deepraj Bhandarkar is a Consultant Minimal Access Surgeon at Hinduja Hospital and Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, India.
