Thermal analysis of welds (with CD-ROM) (Development in heat transfer, vol. 14)

This book is written for postgraduate students, and welding, mechanical design and research engineers who deal with problems such as residual stresses and distortions of welds, design of welded structures, micro-structure modelling of welds and optimization of welding sequences and procedures and other related problems. The author approaches the subject in a very simplified way, focusing on heat conduction and step-by-step derivation of the analytical solutions using fundamental calculus that is easy to understand. Solutions are given in closed form and are more or less ready for use. Applications for each of these are demonstrated through easily accessible case studies which provide effective tools for solutions to the thermal analysis of welded components and structures without the need for carrying out thermal transient FEM analysis. Special features include new analytical solutions developed by the author for various 3D Gaussian distribution heat sources and a CD-ROM containing Fortran codes for a variety of applications.
